Motoko Kusanagi Speed Painting
I'm pining for my demo of openCanvas and its lovely blendable colours. I have to make do with Photoshop, bleh!
I've never seen the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film, only the beginning and the trailer, but Motoko really made an impression on me. I like her in the film more than in the SAC series or even the manga. I guess they just changed her appearance to match the tone of the story. Personally, I like her androgyny and cold eyes more than her cute, womanly TV incarnation. :)
So in light of that I decided to paint her. Previously I had attempted to paint the scene where she emerges from the water after her body is completed, but it turned out horrible, so I went away, practiced, and came back to try an easier pose. ;D
Preview:

I'm quite pleased with the shadows beneath her ribs/intercostals but I think her face could do with some more work. Well, I think I'm done with this one so I might just leave it and try a new painting.
In other news, we ordered the DVD of The Iron Giant and it came yesterday! I loved it, it was so sad and funny. I love the whole concept of 'a machine with a soul'. I may try and draw the characters. It had a happier ending than I expected, though
